The #rePlay Series: ePisode 12

This sooong.

I don't remember when or where I heard it for the first time, but I do remember how it got me hooked. So hooked that it was on replay for days on end. And even now whenever it comes to mind and I play it, listening to it once doesn't cut it.

What really struck me was the meaning of the title and the chorus. Here, lemme show you:

Pretty cool, huh?

Funny how I remembered this track at this point in my life where it seems to be a season of figuring out my relationships and compartmentalizing them accordingly. It's been an interesting experience so far. Interesting AND liberating, if I must add.

Anyhu, hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I do. So here ya go!

The #rePlay Series: ePisode 11

Musicheads, get in here!

Don't you just looooove when you randomly discover goooood music? Like it literally finds you JUST. AT. THE. RIGHT. TIME.

That's me right now, bobbing my head to Space and Time by Naija Afrobeats newbie, Victony.

One word - Shweeeet.

I'm home alone, working my a** off on my laptop per usual, and per usual (again), I need to listen to music to fuel my mind. I pick up my phone, head to the iTunes app, and this new artiste spotlight of the month stares right at me. Normally, I don't indulge these prompts, but I think the odds were in my favor today.

Long story short, give the Saturn - EP a listen. 6 tracks worth 16 minutes of your time - trust me.

The #rePlay Series: ePisode 10

Helloooo thou loyal ones! Behold, it's thy lucky month!

So, something fantastic happened to me this week and it could ONLY have been God that did it (the Dude keeps amazing me more than I deserve to be) And because I am in such a giddy mood, y'all are in for not one, not two, but THREE posts this month!

Can I hear an 'Amen'?
*my handful of dedicated readers chorus* 'AMEN!!!'

Now let's get down to it shall we?

This jam has been my lullaby for some days now. And it kinda surprised me cause I am not an avid fan of the singer. Reason not only being that I wish I could understand his lyrics, cause he frequently sings in Yoruba, but just...because. *shrug* I have never really been able to put a finger to it to be honest.

Yep. For those who might have guessed right, I am referring to Adekunle Gold.

I had heard this track in passing on the radio a couple of times and the chorus always stuck with me.
But, about three nights ago, I was in bed and had some little extra mobile data (that's a luxury in this part of the world, in case you didn't know) and decided to stream the latest hits on iTunes and this was one of the tracks on the playlist.

And then I listened to the first line - "I know you need a holiday. Let's go away for six months, twice in a year..."

Like, HELLO??? Yes pleaseeeee!!! Can someone just swoop me off my feet and take me around the world forever?

If you haven't, you should give it a listen here, even though I am probably the last Nigerian that connected with the song, seeing as everybody in this country appears to be crazy about his music.
But, oh well...perhaps I have jumped on that bandwagon, no?

#rePlayLyrics MashUp: I Like That

The first time I heard this track, I thought it was all about sexuality and yada yada yada which, more often than not, makes me zone out on a song if that's where the lyrics tend towards.
But I liked the chorus, and that was pretty much all I looked forward to anytime the song came on. I mean, it's Janelle Monae guys.

But then, one random day, while it was playing, I realized the bridge had nothing to do with sex per say. So I got curious, googled the lyrics and BAM! I got addicted.
Apparently, it more or less sounds like the story of my life.

Excuse her French by the way, even though sometimes it's needed to pass a point across #JustSayin'

The #rePlay Series: ePisode 9

Hey Hey!

Happy New Year You!!!
And for sticking around long enough (3rd Year Blogiversary is in 6 days. Ayyy!) to take out time to read my 'not-so-frequent' posts (my bad), you're far too kind :)

I type this with chills (the good kind) running down my spine. Reason being I've got my earphones plugged into my ears, sending the symphony of a sensational song into my brain on replay.

This sensational song...

Loren Allred's voice has stolen my heart. And the way she oozed of effortless grace during her performance??
Urgh! Just giving me goosies anyhow!

Plus it doesn't help that the chorus is so romantic and has that oh-so-sweet tempo *sheds a mushy tear*

If you haven't seen The Greatest Showman yet, you def should. I am not a crazy fan of musicals trust me, but the songs rendered in this had a different air to them- the voices, the lyrics, the moves...

Again, Sensational.

The #rePlay Series: ePisode 8

'If I could bottle this up, bottle, bottle this up, I would...' *shimmy dance*

There's just something about Andy Grammer's sound that makes the corners of my lips turn up in a smile. If I could use a word to describe it I'd say, 'Refreshing'.
Yes. That's the word.

I first discovered one of his singles, Honey, I'm Good through the Rick Dees Top 40 Radio Show (my one-stop-shop for international hits) and instantly took a liking to his genre of music.
Then this one came along, Fresh Eyes. Really lovely tune. Thing is, I heard it on the radio, downloaded it, listened to it a couple of very random times and totally forgot I had it on my playlist.
Then I saw his feature on CNN this morning and this song was the focus.
His interview was on how it was originally written for his wife and then in the video, came around to shed light on this somewhat 'hidden' social crisis - homelessness, which was the topic of discussion.

So if you read through the lyrics, it's all about falling in love with a 'stranger', being his wife and how she still mesmerizes him like when they first met.
But then the video shows Andy visiting with some homeless folks at a shelter and taking them to a salon and a clothing store room to get a makeover. This is done away from the mirror so they have no idea how they are being transformed. And then when it's complete, they are spun around in their chairs to see how lovely they look.
The expression on their faces seems like they are seeing themselves for the first time...with fresh eyes.
Simply heartwarming :) And yes, I had tears in my eyes. *looks away sheepishly*

Trust that I immediately searched my playlist to ensure it was still in there. And then I hit 'Repeat'...

Check out the video here.

And by the waaaay, it's my 2nd Blogiversary tomorrow! Hehe!
Who would have thought I will stick around this long...

The #rePlay Series: ePisode 7

I had the oddest insomnia experience last night. Blame it a little bit on Taylor Swift.
Although, it's not entirely so that I couldn't sleep cause I was up all night listening to her latest hit, The New Romantics. I just couldn't sleep for the life of me! So like every other sleepless night, I plugged my ears and hit the replay button.

There is something about her songs that always get me all 'high-schooly' no matter how grown up she may sound even years afterwards.

At some point by say, 1:45am I jumped out of bed and recorded a little dance flick video...I deleted it 10 seconds after I watched it of course. I couldn't quit giggling at myself.
No...I was not tipsy. Although a shot or two won't have been a bad idea at that moment.

1:52 am...yep, that's about right

And of course the aftermath was my waking up pretty late for work the next day...pssssh!

#rePlayLyrics MashUp: Rule The World & Hold On (The Break)

Walk Off The Earth is an accapella (with a blend of indie, alternative and reggae rock, folk and ska) sensation of a band.
I still don't get why they are yet to receive the recognition they deserve. Thanks to my 'bigger' bro who always seems to have a way of digging up musical talents off the depths of the internet and 'forcing' me to give them an ear, which always turns out to be both ears at the end.

This is possibly a one-time section in the blog, a combo of the #rePlay series and the Music & Lyrics volume. That's cause I don't just love listening to these two songs, but I also enjoy singing the lyrics especially the choruses. It's not like they are so deep and intense and all of that. Nah. They are subtle but have quite a lot to offer.

Really can't decide which I love the best...or the better in this case.

Rule The World
They say no way, oh, I say I'll rule the world
Ain't afraid of the walls, Imma break 'em down
They stay the same, oh, I'm feeling high as a bird
Ain't afraid of the ground, Imma stay up
I say yeah yeah yeah, they say no no no
They say slow slow slow, I say go go go
They say no way, oh, I say I'll rule the world
I say I'll rule the world...

  Hold On (The Break)
You gotta hold on to what you got, babe
It ain't always greener than the other side, you know
We ain't rich but we're worth alot, babe
I wanna see the world with your hand in mine, you know
Come on, I'll love you like that
It ain't always greener on the other side, you know
Come on, I'll love you like that
I wanna see the world with your hand in mine, you know

Give them a listen here (Rule the World) and here (Hold On-The Break).

If you have an ear for good music, you would thank me later.

The #rePlay Series: ePisode 6

I know. Two posts in one day. Exceptional. Well, not exactly. Simply the effect of sheer boredom, really.

Anyway, I have yet another hit that I can't stop playing over and over.

David Guetta's Bang My Head (Single Version) with Sia featuring Fetty Wap.
That salsa drumbeat just before the hook...love it!!

Sia. Call her the 'Australian Lady-Gaga'

The album version is exactly the same I believe, but I picked the single version over it just cause I like the idea of featuring Fetty, like a blend of two different artistes who focus on two vast types of music.

Plus, it's actually the theme song for the science fiction action horror (I know. So many genres I'm 'typographically' out of breath) movie, Victor Frankenstein which stars James McAvoy and Daniel Radcliffe. (Already added to my 'To Watch' list)

Guess I'm slowly becoming a fan of the EDM movement. Keeps rubbing off on me.

The #rePlay Series: ePisode 5

'And we danced all night to the best song ever!!!!' *doing the running man*

So One Direction has never been my cup of tea. I ALWAYS 'bump' into their hits or videos and whichever catches my fancy I take my time out to give it a listen. In this case, it was the vid...

Otherwise...Nah! I can't be bothered really. Boy bands aren't my thing anymore not since The Backstreet Boys *shrugs*

The #rePlay Series: ePisode 4

Arghhhhh!!

I can't get over this song! *busting a move*

Jon Bellion is a lion slowly getting out of his cage!
You know what? I'd just drop this here. Listening is better than believing. Let your ears justify this...(for those that have the pleasure of reading my blog that is)

The #rePlay Series: ePisode 3

That moment when you stumble on a song you had no idea existed on your iPod and you simply hit the repeat button.
Take That created that moment for me.

I've suddenly become quite in sync with the British folk. From movies to accents to music. Not as bad as i thought I must say.

'Love Love' is actually the original soundtrack from the X-Men: First Class movie and I can't just help but picture James McAvoy (Prof Xavier) and Michael Fassbender (Magneto) performing to this song on stage...like a karaoke session or something. Weird, I know.

Makes me love it even more...

The #rePlay Series: ePisode 2

The U2 and Mary. J synergy.
You can't go wrong with this one. They both have a way of boring a hole into your subconscious and just making a home there.

And then...the lyrics set in *sigh*

*puts earphones on* One...

The #rePlay Series: ePisode 1

The Beatles.
Never been much of a fan but thanks to the 'bigger' bro I couldn't help but get hooked to a few classics.

And today just happens to be one of those days. Got my iPod to blame for that... #rePlay

'Na Na Na Na Na Na Na
Na Na Na Na
Hey Jude!'
