Jelly Bean

Majority of the female series-fanatics seem to be head over heels with the likes of Olivia Pope and Jessica Pearson's wardrobes. Who wouldn't be? I sometimes picture myself tiptoeing backstage and stealing some, if not all the clothes off the racks.

But then, like a pack of jelly beans, a little more color wouldn't hurt. That's why Laurie Keller aka Jelly Bean from the Cougar Town series is a worthy focus on that.  Like, she goes all out from hair to toe; hairdo, makeup, nail polish, jewelry, shoes... Her get-ups are one word, 'Creatively-Spectacular'.

'Laurie Who?', you ask? Urgh! You know, the wild and wacky member of the Cul de Sac crew?
Well, I believe every weird person like myself ought to have seen at least ten episodes of Cougar Town. *rolls eyes*

That aside, I advice that you put on some sunglasses before you scroll any further. Some bright lights ahead...

Would've loved to post more pictures on here but then I'd run out of space.

Ok, just one more...

...make that two.

The Week(E)nd!

It's been a whiiiiile since I got some major girl time and what better way than to have it with my girlfriends from way way back...I'm talking 15 years and counting.

So one of our friends just got back from obodo oyinbo for a couple of days (she returns to the States tomorrow *sad face*) and oscof we couldn't let her go without a fun night out!

Friday night was one word...LIT! You know you're having a great time with some real friends when you don't necessarily have to go 'gaga' to make it happen. From going to the movies (Deadpool is a legit, forgive my French...A-Hole SMH) to getting some drinks at the Hard Rock Cafe (I loooove the decor!!) to making some crazy noise (and dance moves) on the drive back home. Just awesome.

Urgh. The crappy Eva bottle ruined my photography skills.

I always pick the weirdest names off the menu. This one's called Pickle Tink.
Pinkie Tink would've worked better in my opinion.

Bathroom selfies are inevitable...

Gone Baby...Gone...

The red-head.
Miss her already :(

Spot the craziest of us all. Yep...you guys right.

We def MUST do this again..and again...and again...
I've got my eyes set on April. Now, that would be a post for another day *wink*

Hashtag: Disney

When we were kids (and bored), my siblings and I used to list out ALL the Walt Disney movies we had seen. Sometimes just to make the list a little longer and feel good about our 'achievement' we added the Disney's Sing Along Songs series as well.
Of course, whoever had seen the most Disney productions was a force to contend with. (Well, that and whoever knew the most Marvel and DC characters. But that's a topic for another day.)

I always aspired to be an animator at the Walt Disney Studios. I won't say I have 'given up' on that dream though. It's just on a hiatus at the moment :)

It really thrills me when random people get all creative and think outside the box especially when it relates to something I love.
I was on Instagram a while back and saw a post that really got me smiling and thinking about the good ol' days when nothing else mattered but cartoons. *sigh*
It was a post of four Disney characters; Hercules (Hercules), Jasmine (Aladdin), Elsa (Frozen) and Ariel (The Little Mermaid) all depicting their possible Instagram pages;

So today, I did my research and learnt that all the illustrations were created by Simona Bonafini. She calls them #Selfiefables.
You will see a lot more where those came from on her Tumblr account. Plus her other works are pretty impressive too.

Surprised there isn't one of Pocahontas though. I'm certain my sister would have loved that.

The Foodie Diary- 14th Feb, 2016

Love is sharing. More so, it's about giving.
One might say sharing and giving are one in the same. Well, in my opinion, giving is much deeper.

'Why?' you may ask. Sharing seems more like trade-by-barter. I give you some of mine and get some from you. Or more still we both get a piece of the same 'cake'.
But then, giving 'surrenders' all and 'gets' nothing in return especially at that point in time.

My mum has given us way so much than ever and I felt giving her a treat by cooking her a special lunch was the best way I could celebrate Valentine's Day this year. Not like I ever get to do anything on the 14th February anyway. But who knows what next year holds aye?

My boss who loves to experiment with her cooking sent me a link to a recipe website by Mamador Cooking Oil.
It's funny how we think there are limited dishes we can cook in this part of the world not knowing how many varieties we can get from the same ingredients we eat everyday. I went through the recipes and realized how easy and affordable they were. But then I didn't want to make do with the usual delicacies so I opted for something I had never heard or tried before.

Kibbeh. Trust me, I'm still having a hard time pronouncing it too.
I gave it a shot and I must say I had to give myself a pat on the back afterwards. Practice does however make perfect.

So here are a few pictures and comments following my cooking experience. You can also follow this link to the Mamador Kibbeh Recipe.
Kindly note that I am not a pro when it comes to cooking. Eating on the other hand...

Ingredients

2 Cups of rice
3 Medium sized potatoes (boiled and peeled)
2 Medium sized onions (diced)
500g Minced beef
Curry
2 Seasoning cubes
Pure Vegetable Oil (enough for deep frying)
Water (enough for cooking)
Salt to taste

Preparation Method

1. Wash the rice, place in a deep pot, add enough water, salt and place on medium heat. Cook until the rice is very soft. Remove from heat and set aside to cool.

2. Mash the cooked potatoes with the rice until puree then set aside.

I chopped the Irish potatoes into small chunks so it boiled and softened much faster

Mixed the potatoes and already-boiled rice for mashing

Mashed the mixture with a pestle to make the puree. This was not an easy phase *wipes brow*

3. Heat up 1 cooking spoon of vegetable oil, add the diced onions and fry for 1 minute

4. Add the minced beef and cook until golden brown.

5. Add curry, seasoning cubes, salt and stir until well combined. Let it simmer for another minutes then turn off the heat and leave to cool.

Chopped onions. I almost cried like a baby of course.

Two tins of corned beef and some diced sausages served as minced meat.

I seasoned my sautee with some Cinnamon. My new found spice love.
The aftermath was heavenly. Stole some to make myself some sandwiches. Just couldn't help it.

6. With wet hands, take medium sized pieces of the potato and rice mixture, form each portion into a ball shape, making a space in the centre bu pushing your finger through from one end.

7. Stuff with some meat mixture, close firmly to form a ball.

8. Fry kibbeh in batched until golden brown.

The stuffed puree with the onion/beef sauce.
Thanks to my mum gloves are a must when it comes to cooking some certain dishes

Voila! La Kibbeh :)
These were my Top Five. Not as golden-brown as I would have wanted but still...

It took me three kibbehs-gone-wrong before I finally made head-way.
Never give up. See? You can learn a couple of life-lessons from the kitchen too!

Made a few side 'orders' as requested by the brothers;

The plantains were a bit too overripe *urgh*

Some fried chicken to last a week, which usually lasts 4 days thanks to the men in the house.

Lunch Is Served!

P.S: They LOVED it! Even though I wasn't so keen on the taste. The woes of a perfectionist.
Would certainly give it a better shot next time.

Next stop, Jambalaya! *grins*

iT'S mOVie SeaSOn!!!!!!

I'm pretty certain the title says it all.
Hollywood is so ON this year...and this is so NOT limited to Marvel and DC movie productions.
It's like they took a hiatus in 2015 and then...BOOOOM! It's 2016 people!! Buckle up!

Lmao! A friend of mine posted a picture of upcoming movies on Instagram. The caption gets me everytime.

For those who don't know, 'Mba' is an Igbo word which means 'At all / Never/ Unacceptable' (you can pick your choice from a string of synonyms if you may...)
Yep. This year's movie craze is that deep.

Brace yourselves...

Here's a little sneak peak of what's to come. If you haven't seen any of these trailers yet, you're on a loooong ting.

P.S: Expect a lot from Sodas And Popcorn this year. Watch this space...

#rePlayLyrics MashUp: Rule The World & Hold On (The Break)

Walk Off The Earth is an accapella (with a blend of indie, alternative and reggae rock, folk and ska) sensation of a band.
I still don't get why they are yet to receive the recognition they deserve. Thanks to my 'bigger' bro who always seems to have a way of digging up musical talents off the depths of the internet and 'forcing' me to give them an ear, which always turns out to be both ears at the end.

This is possibly a one-time section in the blog, a combo of the #rePlay series and the Music & Lyrics volume. That's cause I don't just love listening to these two songs, but I also enjoy singing the lyrics especially the choruses. It's not like they are so deep and intense and all of that. Nah. They are subtle but have quite a lot to offer.

Really can't decide which I love the best...or the better in this case.

Rule The World
They say no way, oh, I say I'll rule the world
Ain't afraid of the walls, Imma break 'em down
They stay the same, oh, I'm feeling high as a bird
Ain't afraid of the ground, Imma stay up
I say yeah yeah yeah, they say no no no
They say slow slow slow, I say go go go
They say no way, oh, I say I'll rule the world
I say I'll rule the world...

  Hold On (The Break)
You gotta hold on to what you got, babe
It ain't always greener than the other side, you know
We ain't rich but we're worth alot, babe
I wanna see the world with your hand in mine, you know
Come on, I'll love you like that
It ain't always greener on the other side, you know
Come on, I'll love you like that
I wanna see the world with your hand in mine, you know

Give them a listen here (Rule the World) and here (Hold On-The Break).

If you have an ear for good music, you would thank me later.

The Foodie Diary L(a)unch

I'm a Foodie. No need to sugarcoat it. A Foodie and so damn proud of it.
And to cap it up, thanks to my metabolism my waist size is about '20 centimeters' (or so my colleagues say). Makes eating even much more fun!
Oh, what joy!!

Someone once told me I would make an awesome food blogger, like Eat.Drink.Lagos and the likes.
Always brushed off the idea even though I knew at the back of my mind she was about 95.9% right.
But then a time comes when your glass cup is filled to the brim and its overflowing hence you simply have to share the content with another pitcher or whatever.

My dear friends (and family), I have reached my 'brim' and it would be of great pleasure to share my 'content' with thee. Content being My Food Experience.
So I have decided to introduce a section on the blog titled 'The Foodie Diary'.

First off, I would just share a 'lirru' bit of my Foodie Moments of 2015 most of which were towards the end of the year. Hungry much?

Vanilla Chocolate Delight. Dave ordered only a can of Sprite and some lime. Made me feel like a glutton...not like I cared any less though.

Spaghetti Carbonara. Bukky chose this off the menu for me. She knows my foodie senses too well.
